Bárðar saga Snæfellsáss

Bárðar saga Snæfellsáss () is one of the sagas of Icelanders. It takes place in Snæfellsnes in Iceland. The main character is Bárður Snæfellsás. He saved Ingjaldur from Ingjaldshvoll when he was in danger at sea.

Bárður was half human, half ogre and is said to have arrived at Djúpalón where he built himself a farm and called it Laugarbrekka. Bárður had daughters who were women of great stature and pleasing to the eye of which Helga was the eldest. Þorkell, Bárdur's brother, is believed to have lived at Arnarstapi along with two sons, Rauðfeldur and Sölvi. The sons of Þorkell and the daughters of Bárður used to play together. One day, when there was pack ice along the shore, Rauðfeldur pushed Helga out to sea on an iceberg. Helga drifted to Greenland unscathed, but Bárður was infuriated. He pushed Rauðfeldur into the Rauðfeldsgjá ravine and threw Sölvi off Sölvahamar rock, a high cliff on the seaboard east of Arnarstapi.

After these events, Bardur vanished into the Snæfellsjökull ice cap. His treasure is said to lie in Mt. Bárðarkista ('Bárður's chest'), a chest-shaped hyaloclastite mountain bordering the Saxhólsdalur valley.
